Abstract

P018 LOCATION AND NATURE OF THE AFRICAN PLATE BOUNDARY IN NORTHERN TUNISIA 1 SUMMARY Gravity data are used to image the general crustal structure of northern Africa in particular Tunisia. Residual gravity anomalies constructed using regional seismic refraction models and analyzed using edge-enhancement techniques indicate that a previously unknown east-west trending anomaly with source depths between 3 and 7 km exists in northern Tunisia. Forward modeling of the residual anomalies indicate that the anomalies can be explained by either a crustal and mantle feature interpreted as low-density crustal material that is a remnant of the subducted African lithosphere or a
