IOR and EOR – Chances for Increase of Oil Production and Recoveries in Existing, Mature Reservoirs
By J. SecenD25 IOR AND EOR – CHANCES FOR INCREASE OF OIL PRODUCTION AND RECOVERIES IN EXISTING MATURE RESERVOIRS Abstract 1 After the application of conventional oil extraction techniques about 2/3 of discovered reserves still remain to be produced. In view of high probability for oil presence and oil price increases investments in research of possibilities for higher recoveries and higher production with application of appropriate IOR and EOR methods are justified naturally under economic conditions. Introduction Let us assume the position of owner or at least oil company director whose main task is renewal of reserves and whose business success is

The Modern Trends in Estimation of EOR/IOR Technologies Profitability
By A.Y. KhavkinD27 THE MODERN TRENDS IN ESTIMATION OF EOR/IOR TECHNOLOGIES PROFITABILITY 1 The modern conditions of oil & gas business demand the careful estimation of EOR/IOR technologies profitability. For this estimation it is necessary to calculate the net present value (NPV) of cash flow and internal rate of return (IRR). As tradition NPV and IRR are calculated to the last year when net value (NV) of cash flow more then zero. This year is TM. The paper is contained the new results of the analysis of EOR/IOR technologies profitability. On a basis of two examples of oil field cases with EOR/IOR

EOR Efficiency – Myth or Reality?
Authors R.R. Ibatullin, R.S. Khisamov, A.I. Frolov, E.D. Podymov, N.A. Lebedev and G.V. RomanovD28 EOR EFFICIENCY – MYTH OR REALITY? Abstract Most of the oil reserves in the Republic of Tatarstan are on the late stage of the 1 development nowadays. For the last 35 years more than 40 enhanced oil recovery methods have been experienced in a wide range of geologic conditions. EOR technology evaluation efficiency depends on the number of parameters. The most important are: Introduction 1. Parameters of the measurement and method of calculation level 2. Parameters of the field conditions and EOR application level. EOR efficiency evaluation is more complicated for late stage development oil field by waterflooding. Commonly

Tampen IOR
Authors A. Hesjedal and S.R. JakobsenD32 TAMPEN IOR Arild Hesjedal and Stein Rune Jakobsen Statoil 1 ABSTRACT The Tampen area (Fig. 1) in the northern North Sea is a mature oil and gas province. The producing fields are either in the decline phase or on plateau. Hence IOR measures become increasingly more time critical. For this reason Statoil established in 2003 a sub-surface organisation to ensure a medium and long term inter-field and inter-disciplinary IOR approach. Statoil has over the last 15 years achieved good results with IOR. Extensive reserve growth is documented in several fields as for instance the Statfjord Gullfaks and Snorre Fields

This is particularly important for layered reservoirs with significant permeability contrasts since crossflow between the layers as a result of gravity viscous and capillary forces may strongly influence the sweep efficiency

Combination of Computed Tomography and Petrography in Reservoir Characterization
Authors K. Remeysen and R. SwennenP04 COMBINATION OF COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY AND PETROGRAPHY IN RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION Abstract 1 Computed tomography (CT) is a non-destructive technique that generates images of slices through a sample and enables the 3D visualization of the internal structure of the object by stacking of slices. The purpose of this study is to develop a process that automatically calculates important reservoir parameters on large sets of plugs (>30) based only on CT images of the scanned samples. The CT images are linked to petrographical information obtained from thin sections and porosity/permeability measurements of the same samples. In this research dolomite and limestone rocks

A New Genetic Algorithm (GA)-Based Technique to Model the Effects of CO2 Injection on Crude Oil Properties
Authors M.K. Emera and H.K. SarmaP05 A NEW GENETIC ALGORITHM (GA)-BASED TECHNIQUE TO MODEL THE EFFECTS OF CO2 INJECTION ON CRUDE OIL PROPERTIES Abstract 1 A key parameter in a CO2 flooding process is its solubility in the crude oil that results in oil swelling accompanied by a reduction of its viscosity. Where experimental data are not available these physical properties are often determined by using correlations available in the literature. While such correlations are useful for certain conditions they are not applicable in many situations. Simon and Graue correlations for example are limited to 2300 psia and oil viscosity up to 1300 cP and

Effect of Fracture Spacing on Gravity Drainage for Various Kmatrix / Kfracture Ratio
Authors R. Ghanbarnezhad Moghanloo, M. A. Emadi and M. TabibiP10 EFFECT OF FRACTURE SPACING ON GRAVITY DRAINAGE FOR VARIOUS KM/KF RATIO 1 Abstract Most of the reservoirs in the Islamic Republic of Iran are naturally fractured. This is essentially a by-product of the stress folding and heavy faulting that is caused by the tectonic movements of the Zagaros Mountains. Fracturing therefore plays a critical role in reservoir production and in the ultimate hydrocarbon recovery. Recent studies show that 1-D simulation of gravity drainage leads to large errors when the matrix aspect ratio is larger than 2.5. The objectives of this paper is at first deriving the fracture spacing using

An Iterative Method for the Representation of Two-Phase Fault Rock Properties in Reservoir Simulators
Authors A.Z. Vaszi, S.D. Harris, B. Al-Busafi and Q.J. FisherP12 AN ITERATIVE METHOD FOR THE REPRESENTATION OF TWO-PHASE FAULT ROCK PROPERTIES IN RESERVOIR SIMULATORS Abstract 1 It is common practice to account for the effect of faults on fluid flow in production simulation models using transmissibility multipliers. Invariably the multiphase properties of faults are neglected although it is now becoming increasingly accepted that incorporating the multi-phase behaviour of faults into simulation models may sometimes be important (Al-Busafi et al. 2005). It has been proposed that dynamic pseudo-relative permeabilities and pseudo-capillary pressures should be used instead of transmissibility multipliers to retain the multiphase information from the small scale in a

Capillary Effects in Reservoir Simulation
Authors A.M. Sartakov, A.V. Byakov and I.Y. AzhgibetsevaP16 CAPILLARY EFECTS IN RESERVOIR SIMULATION 1 Capillary forces play significant effect in water oil distribution in a porous reservoir. In the classic theory anticline conception in which water-oil contact is a horizontal surface is a basic principal. In practice formation evaluation and seismic data some times are in contradiction with this principal. This situation is usually explained by reservoir faults [1]. Distribution of oil in the vicinity with water-oil surface is defined by the balance of gravity and capillary forces. When the capillary properties of the reservoir are not homogeneous the thickness of water-oil contact may vary in the
